Anne Mathews-Younes is a psychologist, career mental health expert, author, and sought-after speaker with international experience. Her extensive training and expertise in mental health assessment and program development and implementation includes equipping organizational staff, boards, and stakeholders with the necessary educational tools and awareness to support treatment services for persons with mental health needs. Anne worked for the Federal Government’s Center for Mental Health Services for twenty-eight years, most recently as its Deputy Director. Anne oversaw the administration of programs that focus on the Nation’s most underserved populations, including persons with major mental illness, minorities, women, rural residents, and refugees. Anne was responsible for work in school violence and suicide prevention, the prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, the promotion of mental health, including FEMA crisis counseling programs post disasters, and the nation’s suicide prevention lifeline as well as engaging with faith communities in suicide prevention, and trauma-informed care.

In 2018 Anne was invited by social worker/pastor Megumi Enomoto to visit Japan and talk about suicide prevention and other matters. While in Japan, Dr.Teruko Enomoto, asked her to speak to staff and students at Kwansei Gakuin University on suicide prevention. Claudia Yamamoto, involved with the Kagawa Center in Kobe, hosted her visit to discuss her grandfather’s influence as a close colleague of peace activist and pastor, Toyohiko Kagawa. Her extensive travels in India have provided similar opportunities to speak with groups about mental health and suicide prevention.

Anne was initially trained as an occupational therapist. She later received her doctorate in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University and worked as a licensed psychologist. Anne has earned a master’s degree in Theological Studies at Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C., as well as a Doctoral Degree in Ministry from that same seminary. Both of her theology degrees theses focused on the life, mission, and theology of her late grandfather E. Stanley Jones, with whom she traveled extensively through India and Africa. E. Stanley Jones (1884-1973) was an author, spokesperson for peace, racial brotherhood, and social justice and a confidant of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Jones was nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize, and his 60 years of ministry in India brought him into close contact with that country’s leaders including Nehru, Tagore, and Mahatma Gandhi.

Anne is a credentialed as a Stephen Minister. Serving as President of the non-profit, E. Stanley Jones Foundation, She is Series Editor for the reprinting of most of her grandfather’s twenty-seven books. Anne is a member of the Board of Trustees of Santiago College, Santiago, Chile, and has served as Board Secretary since 1992. Santiago College (K-12 using the IB curriculum) was founded in 1881 by the Methodist missionaries and provides academic excellence in a bilingual setting, embracing cultural diversity as it prepares young people to contribute actively to the development of society in a globalized world.
